United Way works to end America’s education crisis
Education is the cornerstone of individual and community success. But with more than 1.2 million children dropping out each year, America faces an education crisis. The cost? More than $312 billion in lost wages, taxes and productivity over their lifetimes.1 These trends are reversible, but only when communities and public, private and nonprofit sectors work together.
Our Goal
United Way of Beaumont & N. Jefferson County aspires for all students to have the tools needed to successfully graduate from high school.
Our Strategy
We can’t focus on high school alone. High school dropouts are 12 years in the making, usually starting school behind schedule. United Way's model focuses on supportive communities, effective schools and strong families — investing in our youth to give them the best opportunity for success.
Education reduces poverty, boosts economic growth and increases income. That is the reason United Way of Beaumont is partnering with BISD to help put books in the hands of students at all 14 elementary campuses. Aligning with our impact area of education, United Way desires to improve literacy and promote learning. Contact the United Way office to learn more about this exciting initiative scheduled to launch in August 2023.
How You Can Help
To reach our goal, we need your help. The strategies proven to work are those that connect communities to their schools: parent involvement; literacy volunteers in the classroom; mentors for disadvantaged students; business leaders engaged in early childhood advocacy. United Way has opportunities for you to get involved, reach out to us to learn more about the ways you can help!
