In 1925, a group of community leaders organized the Beaumont Community Chest as a vehicle to help local citizens in need. The name was changed to United Appeals in 1952 and in 1979, the organization became United Way of Beaumont & North Jefferson County. Through the years, thousands of your neighbors have received help from the partner agencies funded by the United Way.
Our local United Way has seen many changes, however, many things remain the same...it is the people of the community who are the heart and soul of the United Way. As a volunteer-based organization, local volunteers run the organization, local volunteers help raise funds and make decisions related to the distribution of funds. The money raised comes from donors who live and work in our community. And the money stays here to make Southeast Texas a stronger community by helping our neighbors in need.
Each local United Way organization is separate and autonomous, governed by local volunteers. Local United Ways are NOT "chapters" of a larger organization. All decisions are made locally by the elected Board of Trustess.
